Please replace text with:
— A link for an online form will be e-mailed to you if you qualify for the programme.
— If you struggle with the online form and it is within your means, you may submit a digital portfolio of the creative
tasks – a PDF document no bigger than 8MB, or seperate files for all tasks. This creative portfolio of all tasks
can be emailed to
ujgraphicdesigndepartment@gmail.com.— Your name, telephone number, registered student number and email address must be included in the form or the PDF.
— Please upload certified copies of your ID and your latest results in the National Senior Certificate examination or
equivalent qualification, as well as a certified and signed declaration that the tasks is your own work.
— Your digital creative portfolio must include all the set tasks as outlined below, and you may additionally include
examples of your best existing work. Please note that there are written tasks on the next page in this brochure.
— It is at the discretion of the department to exempt applicants with high marks and strong creative work in Visual
Arts, Design and Technology subjects (NSC), from submitting a portfolio of creative tasks.
— It is important that the examples of your creative tasks that you upload to Google Drive are clear and crisp,
showing as much detail as possible. If the images are dark and blurry, the Department will not be able to make a
fair decision about the quality of your portfolio.
— Find a suitable, clean area with minimal distractions to photograph or scan your work. Working on a solid, plain
background works best.
— It’s best to photograph during the day using natural light. Try to avoid shooting directly in the sun, as your work
may look washed out or have a glare on certain spots. If you shoot in low light conditions (night photography) your
work could look grainy or blurry.
— Do not use the zoom feature on your phone. This will cause pixilation, blurriness and decrease the overall quality
of the photograph. Rather move the phone closer to the artwork to capture more detail.
— Some phones allow the user to adjust the exposure (light) of the photograph by tapping once on the screen and
then dragging the icon (usually a sun) up or — Newer smartphones have a Document scan option within the
camera application. You can also download an app that allows you to use your camera phone as a scanner (e.g.,
Simple Scan).
