2024 Communication Design Exhibition
2024 was a busy but rewarding year for UJ Department of Graphic Design. The department collaborated with external stakeholders on numerous projects, including the UJ Centre of Ecological Innovation, the Jack Ginsberg Centre, PANGA Zines, Jozi my Jozi, Johannesburg Zoo, Girls and Boys Town South Africa, Capfin, Crystal Springs Mountain Lodge, Water for the Future and the African Reclaimers Organisation.
Wilna Combrinck won a Gold Pendoring for her MA project, ‘Access, Designed’, a picture book for the visually impaired. Aaminah Darsot won one silver and one gold craft Pendoring for her decolonial rewrite of Beauty and the Beast as ‘Die Wonderwerk van Koratari’. Philasande Masoga won a silver Pendoring for Gezi District’ Wayfinding in the Student Out Of Home Ambient Design category. Londiwe Hlatswayo and Katja da Cunha both won Student Craft Certificates for illustration. Yannick van Dorp and his UJ Strategic Communications team were World Public Relations and Communication Awards finalists, one of only three university projects internationally. Yannick was also the winner of the UJ leg of Absa Hackathon, 2024.
